Since International Women’s Day just passed, I started thinking about movies that perfectly capture women’s strength and independence.
Some films celebrate women who changed history. Some are about friendship, independence, or simply finding your own path. But all of them show different sides of women’s strength.
So I made a quick list of 20 movies that feel perfect for March 8. Curious what you all think!
My Women’s Day Movie List
Here are some that immediately came to mind:

- Little Women – A timeless story about sisterhood and ambition.
- Erin Brockovich – One woman taking on a massive corporation.
- The Color Purple – A powerful story of resilience and sisterhood.
- The Devil Wears Prada – Career ambition, mentorship, and fashion drama.
- Suffragette – The fight for women’s voting rights.
- Frida – The life and art of Frida Kahlo.
- Wonder Woman – A superhero who leads with compassion and courage.
- Mulan – A classic story about bravery and breaking expectations.
- Thelma & Louise – One of the most iconic friendship road movies ever.

Some are inspiring true stories, some are emotional, and some are just fun but still empowering.
A Small Tip for Movie Night
If you’re revisiting some older films in this list, you might notice the quality isn’t always great on modern TVs.
Sometimes I run older clips through HitPaw VikPea to upscale them a bit or clean up the noise. It’s surprisingly helpful for older movies that were originally released in lower resolution.
Not necessary of course — but it does make a difference on bigger screens.
