Has anyone here watched I Love LA on HBO yet? I keep seeing people talk about it like it’s the next big comedy, but I honestly can’t tell if it’s actually funny or just one of those shows that’s cool to say you like. Rachel Sennott wrote it and stars in it, which already makes me curious — I loved her in Shiva Baby and Bottoms, she’s got that chaotic, painfully self-aware humor down perfectly. The trailer gave major Fleabag meets The Other Two vibes — lots of awkward LA parties, influencer nonsense, and that “everyone’s pretending to be okay” kind of energy.
If anyone’s seen it, is it actually funny or more like existential cringe? I don’t mind either, but I wanna know what I’m getting into before I commit to a whole season
. Also, side note — the clips I’ve seen online looked kinda low-res, which is weird for HBO. I ran the trailer through HitPaw VikPea just to clean it up a bit, and the difference was wild. You can actually catch all those tiny expressions that make Rachel’s humor work so well.
Anyway, I’m tempted to binge it this weekend, but I’d love to know what you all think first. Is I Love LA a must-watch comedy gem, or one of those shows that’s fun to tweet about but not actually that funny when you sit down to watch?
