How can I convert videos to HD quality easily

Hey everyone!

We’ve all been there—you find an old family video, a classic movie clip, or even a screen recording that looks like it was filmed on a potato. You want to share it or use it for a project, but the resolution is just too low for today’s screens.

I’ve been experimenting with HitPaw VikPea lately to see how it handles upscaling, and I wanted to share a specific case study of how I turned a blurry 480p clip into a sharp 1080p HD video.

My Situation (Real Case)

I had an old 480p video recorded on my phone back in 2015.

  • Resolution: 640×480

  • Issues: blurry details, noise, poor sharpness

  • Goal: upscale to at least 1080p and make it look clean enough for sharing on social media

What I Used

I usedHitPaw VikPea (AI video enhancer). What I liked is that it doesn’t require manual tweaking—it uses AI models to automatically improve quality.

The Process (How I did it):

Step 1: Import the Video Once you open HitPaw VikPea, just drag and drop your low-res file into the Video Enhancer interface. It supports batch processing, but for this one, I focused on a single 9-minute clip.

Step 2: Choose the Right AI Model This is the “secret sauce.” Depending on your footage, you should select the model that fits:

  • Denoise Model: Perfect for most old videos. (This is what I used)

  • Portrait Restoration Model: It specifically targets facial features to make them look realistic rather than “plastic.”

  • Animation Model: Best for anime or cartoons.

Step 3: Select Resolution I set the export settings to 1920x1080. You can even go up to 4K, but for this specific vintage clip, 1080p provided the most natural-looking result.

Step 4: Preview & Export Hit the “Preview” button first! It renders a few seconds so you can compare the original vs. the AI-enhanced version side-by-side. Once I saw how much clearer the eyes and textures were, I hit Export.

The Result:

The difference was night and day! The “noise” (that grainy look) was almost entirely gone, and the edges of objects looked crisp instead of pixelated.

Pro-Tip: if you’re working with very dark footage, try adjusting the brightness slightly before importing—it helps the AI “see” the details better!

What are you guys working on? If you have an old clip you’re trying to save, give this a shot and post your before/after results below. I’d love to see how your projects turn out!

Cheers! :movie_camera::sparkles:
