Hi everyone ![]()
Last weekend I decided to finally digitize some of my old VHS tapes — mostly family events from the 90s. The nostalgia was strong, but honestly, the quality wasn’t. The footage was super grainy and blurry, and it looked even worse on my 4K TV.
That’s when I started looking into how to convert VHS to 4K or at least clean it up. It turns out that there are a few ways to restore VHS: some use plugins in Premiere Pro, while others try AI tools that can upscale and denoise.
I tested one clip with an AI tool, and the difference was surprising. The video quality enhancer to 4K made faces clearer, colors sharper, and the whole thing felt way more watchable without losing the “retro vibe.”
I’m curious — has anyone else here tried to fix grainy video from VHS or other old recordings? Did you prefer traditional editing tools, or do you think AI is the faster way to go? Would love to hear your tips!
