The processing time depends on the video’s length, resolution, the selected VikPea AI model, and your computer’s graphics card performance. It is hard to accurately assess the specific duration. If you encounter abnormal lag, please contact us for assistance in troubleshooting.
Why is VikPea video enhancement so slow? I have a Mac Studio M4 Max and get the message that my processor is slow!!! The activity monitor shows that Hitpaw only uses 20% of CPU and no GPU. I did the same file enhancement some minutes later and the App ran even slower using only 13% CPU. This is a new MAC just a few hours old with no other Apps running. It seems that Hitpaw deliberately slows down the processing!
I was running the App on a Quad core i7 and the speed increase is only a factor 2 with the Mac Studio.
What is going on?
I have fantastic news!
Not more than about two weeks ago I posted some messages, mentioning the issue of the fact that my 32 core threadripper with RTX 3060 GPU was literally not even getting warm during encoding with Hitpaw Vikpea on UHD upscaling of an hour+ video from 480p to 4k resolution: my cpu was idle at 1% usage, and so was the GPU also at 1%. Yet Vikpea said “Your computer kind of slow! You should pay big $$$ for cloud computing!”
Well, I have great news! Since then it appears that they released version 5.0.1. And now, they have totally fixed the problem!!!
It now uses 80% of my GPU! And the processing time for my video went from 7 hours to 22 hours! Yay! I’m so happy they found a way to max out my GPU to ensure my computer will need to see all the pop up boxes that “Your computer is slow, you should pay $$$ for cloud computing”!
I’m glad our feedback is being taken seriously, and they are so quick to respond with hotfixes.
Proof that they are simply infinite looping the GPU and throttling the processing time:
- Upscaling a 480p video with UHD mode to 60 FPS at 4k resolution is exactly the same processing time (22 hours) as exporting to 24 FPS at just 100 pixel resolution, lol rofl.
I posted in another thread but it won’t allow me to edit my post. Originally I was impressed on the 1st day thinking it is fast but later I realize only some of the models are ok fast but comparing with other AI enhancers, it is not really faster than I originally thought and in fact slower in most cases. Some models are extremely slow and I’m not sure if it is because Hitpaw wants you to pay for their cloud rendering. The model I like most is the Portrait Restoration Model. It is similar to the IRIS model in Topaz. There pretty much is an equivalent to every Topaz model besides Starlight but quality is slightly worst than Topaz and slower than Topaz. Also you can’t do frame interpolation simultaneous with video upscaling in Hitpaw so it is much more time consuming overall.
Hi there, if the processing speed still doubts you, feel free to contact our tech support team who will try to help you solve the problem. Support Team Email: support@hitpaw.com
I purchased the software a few days ago and paid $109. In the past two days, there have been two attempts to withdraw another $45. Please let me know the reason so I can address this matter.

Hello
I’ve been using the program for two days now, and I’ve noticed something that’s really bothering me. I only signed up for a one-month subscription, which was probably my lucky break.
I use the same file, the same model, the same settings, and then it takes one hour the first time and 15 hours the next. Is that how it works? Do you have to buy credits?
I don’t like that so much. I had only read bad reviews beforehand and said whatever, I wanted to test it, but now it activates quickly at first and then slowly, and I didn’t do anything else from the first to the last attempt.
