So I recently rewatched Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 in theaters (awesome, btw), and it got me nostalgic for the older ones—especially MI3. But man… the DVD copy I had? Rough. Super compressed, dim lighting, grain all over.
I decided to try something:
What if I used AI to enhance the original and make it look close to modern 4K quality?
The Tool I Used: HitPaw VikPea
Not sponsored or anything—just tried it out after reading about it. It’s a desktop app (Mac/Windows) for AI video enhancement and upscaling.
What I liked:
Multiple AI models: I used “General Restoration Model” for action, “Portrait Restoration Model” for close-ups.
Real-time preview: Huge plus—you can compare before/after on the fly.
Low-light recovery: This helped a lot on the nighttime scenes.
Exported in 4K MP4, smooth and clean.
Full video processed in ~45 min on M2 MacBook. Very doable.
Here’s a Before vs After
Have you tried upscaling any older action films?
Curious if anyone’s tested this with anime or VHS content.
